New STEM-NET Fellow
Ayona Chatterjee, Professor and Chair of the Department of Statistics and Biostatistics, has been appointed the STEM-NET Fellow for 2024-2025. The CSU systemwide STEM-NET program is dedicated to advancing research, fostering community, and encouraging innovative educational initiatives across the CSU network. In her role as the STEM-NET Fellow, Dr. Chatterjee will collaborate closely with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to assist faculty with exploring and pursuing grant funding opportunities.

The Research and Scholarship Grant Program (RSG) are funded by funds from the Office of the Chancellor and the Cal State East Bay Division of Academic Affairs. They are intended as “seed grants” to promote the development of new or expanded research, scholarship, and creative activities (RSCA) by faculty. Successful proposals will identify one or more specific products that will result from the project such as a publication in a peer-reviewed journal, submission of a grant proposal to an external sponsor, a public performance, and/or juried competition. The maximum award is $10,000 and must be spent within FY 2025-26.
Grant Proposal Development (GPD) program Spring 2023 is OPEN- The deadline is 12:00 pm, Friday, November 11, 2022. Submit through
Cal State East Bay’s Grant Proposal Development (GPD) program aims to equip faculty with the tools required for the development and submission of competitive extramural grant proposals. This program is open to full-time faculty in all disciplines. Participants will be provided with resources for research/program development and idea refinement, editorial and writing support, grantspersonship, and subject matter specific expert mentoring for the timely submission of high-quality extramural grant proposals. Overall, GPD will support Cal State East Bay’s faculty in their efforts to achieve success in research, scholarly, and creative activities (RSCA)

Updated Role for Dr. Chandra Khan
Dr. Chandra Khan has recently updated her role from Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs to Associate Vice President of Research, Sponsored Programs, and Graduate Studies. In this expanded capacity, she will oversee critical aspects of the institution's research initiatives, including the development and management of sponsored programs and the advancement of graduate studies. Her leadership will play a pivotal role in driving innovative research, fostering collaborative opportunities, and enhancing the institution's reputation in academic and research excellence. Dr. Khan’s expertise and commitment to academic growth make her an invaluable asset in this enhanced role.

Opportunities for Student Scholarship, Creative Activities, and Research (OSCAR)!
Formerly known as the Center for Student Research (CSR), OSCAR engages students in deeper learning through faculty-mentored projects outside of the classroom. These projects, which are not tied to course assignments, help students develop expertise and essential skills. The OSCAR Scholar's Program also offers scholarship funding for professional development opportunities that build broader academic and professional skills. Our programs are open to both undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines, fostering student success and increasing retention and graduation rates.

CSCI - New Faculty Grant Support MentorshipErik Helgren, Professor in the Department of Physics, has been named the CSUEB STEM NET Fellow for 2023-24. The CSU systemwide STEM-NET program promotes research, community building and innovative educational ideas across the CSU university system. As the CSUEB STEM NET Fellow, Dr. Helgren will work closely with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to support faculty in the College of Science in exploring and seeking grant funding opportunities. Indirect Cost Rate Changes
Effective April 1, 2023, the rates for CSUEB IDC (Indirect Cost) have been revised. Any proposals submitted subsequent to the aforementioned date shall adhere to the revised rates.
